Often referred to as “the great imposter”, red spinels have long been mistaken for rubies by emperors and monarchs. Today, their popularity is on the rise, with spinel recently named an August birthstone, alongside peridot.

Resembling the shape of a pillow, hence the name, cushion cut stones are softly square in shape, with gently rounded edges and corners.

A measurement of the purity of gold alloyed with other metals, 9K gold is composed of 37.5% pure gold and the remainder alloy. yellow gold around the 2.73 carat spinel, following the curves of the stone. Finished with a tapered bale that gives the pendant a reassuring weight, wear it close to the neck on a torque or longer on a chain, depending on the occasion.
